Valentine’s Celebration “Love Potions”

by | Feb 10, 2013 | Uncategorized

Q:     What’s a Texas girl do when college football season ends and winter storm, Nemo, dumps 20 inches of snow in town?

A:     Throw a party, of course!

Yes, you heard me right.  My friends braved the conditions to come over and taste-test three different cocktails one might serve on Valentine’s Day.  I ran across these yummy (and easy to mix) cocktails in the February issue of Better Homes and Gardens.

Love Potion #1:  Fizzy Grapefruit and Peach Sipper.  Mix one part each fresh grapefruit juice, vodka, and sparkling peach soda (we used Izze brand).  Top with quartered grapefruit slices.  Delish…and smells so refreshing.

Love Potion #2:  Minty Lime Refresher.  Combine two parts each fresh lime juice and simple syrup, one part each white rum and club soda.  Add a small splash of crème de menthe (a little goes a long way…trust me), and garnish with mint leaves.  This one turned out pretty green, so I have to admit, I was a little squeamish about trying it.

Love Potion #3:  Blushing Lemonade.  Mix two parts each pink lemonade and vodka with a splash of Limoncello and simple syrup to taste.  Garnish with a lemon twist.  Very beachy and ours turned out a little on the yellow side.

We did have a favorite, but you should mix a few and decide for yourself.   Go grab your husband, boyfriend, or your best gal pals over to sample these love potions.  As always, drinks are best served with a side dish of your favorite tunes.  My current music crush is Tim McGraw (sorry Jamie).

FYI, our winner was…..#2.  Frankly, we were surprised we liked that minty green drink best.

What’s your favorite “love potion” for Valentine’s Day?   And no, liquid chocolate doesn’t count!
